Follow on Google News | Faroudja F1 Enhances Quality While Saving Up to 50% Bandwidth for Multiscreen Service ProvidersFaroudja Enterprises to demonstrate real-time, encoder-independent F1 Video Bitrate Reducer and image restoration technology at NAB 2015
By: Faroudja Enterprises Show attendees can experience in real-time how the F1 is capable of reducing video bitrate by up to 50%, increasing the perceived quality of video using the same bitrate, or a combination of increased perceived video quality along with reduced bitrate. In addition, the company will unveil never before seen image quality improvement technologies. These technologies can be added in any combination to F1 processing or used in a stand-alone workflow. F1 is fully scalable, providing the user with the choice of speed versus processing conservation. The NAB demonstrations will feature: · Video streamed to two Android tablets and two set-top boxes to show real-time quality differences for both mobile and home playback applications · Comparative split screen to show critical quality differences between a conventionally encoded stream and F1 enhanced stream · Robustness during transmission bandwidth constriction · Introduction of new Faroudja-grade image quality restoration technology, which can be added to F1 processing, will be shown separately to isolate its effects as well as to highlight relevance to 4K content. This will include bandwidth restoration for edges and details, 1080p to 4K upscaling, and detail preserving de-blocking: F1 utilizes any conventional encoder (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, HEVC, etc.) — without any codec modifications. The F1 platform is designed to better manage today’s increasing demand for video and pave the way for 4K delivery — especially through bandwidth limited networks — as well as traditionally delivered media. “When people talk about improving video, especially for 4K UHDTV, they always mention resolution, dynamic range, and frame rate, but you rarely hear any mention of what the video delivery system does to the content. That’s because people don’t think they have any control over that delivery system,” said Bill Herz, COO of Faroudja Enterprises. “Between our F1 bit rate reducer and our brand new video quality enhancements, I think Faroudja has broken through in addressing this by balancing and minimizing compression artifacts, loss of detail, and noise, to increase the viewer’s experience, regardless of the device upon which they are watching.” F1 is aimed at professional markets such as content distribution networks, Over-the-Top (OTT) services, cloud-based services, VOD, TV broadcasting, and wherever there is a critical need for managing large volumes of video data. Service operators can use F1 to deliver high quality consumer front-of-screen, second-screen, and mobile viewing experiences. Demonstrations conducted by Yves Faroudja and the F1 team will be held in the Faroudja Enterprises booth, N8229, in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at NAB 2015.
