OKLAHOMA CITY - March 25, 2015 - PRLog -- 25 years ago this year the Nintendo World Championships tour hit major cities nationwide in the effort to crown the champions of the then-hot Nintendo Entertainment System.  This coming weekend, one of the original sites will host a return to Nintendo competition.

The second annual SUPER! BitCon event takes place this Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in the Expo Hall, just a few hundred yards away from the building that housed the Oklahoma City stop of the Nintendo World Championships event a quarter century ago.

All day Saturday, competitors can line up and take part in a high score contest on the Championship Mode of NES Remix 2 on the Nintendo Wii U, a modern-day version of the original NWC contest cartridge.  The winner will receive a one of a kind trophy and prize pack with a chance to win more in a one-on-one competition with Texas video game veteran Patrick Scott Patterson.

Patterson, who began gaming in 1981, appears in a variety of film, television and online content talking about the history of video gaming and its impact on modern pop culture. He has also been a world record holding video game champion, featured several years ago by Guinness World Records and ESPN.  He competed in the Dallas leg of the original 1990 Nintendo tour, the first city that the competition took part in.  His best score on the NES Remix 2's Championship Mode is 7,499,700 points, one of the highest scores known.

"I wanted to come up with something that would bring attention to the history of the Nintendo World Championships anniversary and what better way to do that is to have a competition near the site of one of the original stops," Patterson said.  "Younger participants can gain a small taste of what it was like for us a quarter century ago."

While he is confident in his skills on the NES Remix Championship Mode, Patterson admits he has a bad game once in a while and is going to stop short of guaranteeing victory.

"I'm not 14 years old like I was during the original tour.  I'm a husband and father who can't practice all day like I did back then," he added.  "That said, the person who plays me in the exhbition better bring their A-game."
