The Alive Center and NaperBridge Merger Finalized – Grand Opening in April & May!

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - March 25, 2015 - PRLog -- NAPERVILLE, IL – The much anticipated merger between the newly formed Alive Center and the NaperBridge Teen Center was finalized by the Illinois Secretary of State on March 11.  The Alive Center was recently founded by Kandice Henning, Executive Director.  Alive’s mission is to provide the community with a welcoming place to create, play, learn and connect with what makes them come alive.  As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, the Alive Center provides scholarships and free classes for the underserved as well as our NaperBridge teen drop-in hours which are free of charge.

The Alive Center moved into a 5,000 square-foot warehouse-style space at 500 W. 5th Avenue on January 1. The new space allows for a wide range of programs for adults and for the growth of the already strong NaperBridge teen programs. Henning said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the faces of the NaperBridge teens light up as they tour the new space and begin to visualize the possibilities for the space.” The Alive Center has a large lounge, a full kitchen, an art studio, meeting rooms and a large space for events such as concerts, open mic nights, dances and much more. And the central location makes it walkable from downtown and many of the local schools.

After months of construction, NaperBridge at the Alive Center is having a Grand Re-opening on Friday, April 24, supported by Navistar.  The evening includes a high school teen concert by Dead Yet Alive and Shop Talk.  The show starts at 7pm and admission is free. The adult portion of Alive is slated to open on Saturday, May 9 with a 1pm – 4pm Open House of free activities that give adults a sneak peak of what will be on the Alive schedule. The Open House will include a ribbon cutting and a keynote by John Coyle, TEDx speaker, presenting on ‘How to Design Moments that Help You Live (almost) Forever’.

Beginning April 27, teens are invited to our free drop-in hours after school from 3pm – 6pm Monday through Friday. Teens can play games, do school work, play video games, take advantage of the Underground Art Farm (an open art studio) and generally just hang out.  New this spring will be free tutoring offered by The Merry Tutor. Fee-based teen classes will be available as well for those that are interested, such as cooking, African drumming and hula hooping.  NaperBridge Student Board President, Jon Kim said “NaperBridge will now have adequate space to host events normally held at the Barn Recreation Center and can continue its drop-in hours; whereas Alive will be the first recreational center in Naperville to cater to an older audience.  Students and adults alike will be able to showcase their talents, learn new skills, meet new friends, and simply be themselves.”

Beginning the week of May 11, classes and workshops for adults will be available from 9am – 3pm and again after 6pm during the week. The weekends will bring a mix for both teens and adults.

The Alive Center would also like to announce our newly merged Board of Directors – Sue Erdman, John Freiburger, Debbie Fox, Jeff Haake, Kerry Haake, Austin Hansen, Jeff Havel, Kandice Henning, Paul Hinterlong, Josie Miller, Dean Reschke and Sam Smith.
