Stetson University Wins AAJ’s Florida Regional Student Trial Advocacy Competition

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Stetson University College of Law emerged as the 2015 American Association for Justice's Student Trial Competition (AAJ STAC) Regional Finalist that was held on March 20-21 at the Broward County Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Florida State University College of Law was the Runner Up.

Schools from Florida, Louisiana and Georgia fielded Mock Trial Teams to participate in the competition which was coordinated by voluntary Co-Chairs - attorney Gabriel F. Zambrano of Farmer, Jaffe, Weissing, Edwards, Fistos & Lehrman, attorney Elizabeth Finizio of Finizio & Finizio and attorney Beth Feder of Winston & Wigand. The Co-Chairs recruited nearly 90 local members to sit and “Judge” the competitors and facilitate the event.

The AAJ STAC competition is a nationally recognized mock trial competition that AAJ holds annually. There are 14 regional competitions across the country.  Approximately, sixteen teams are assigned to each of fourteen regions. Only the top team from each region will advance to the National Finals in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, on April 16-19, 2015.

The winning national team will receive complimentary airfare, hotel accommodations, and registration for the 2014 AAJ Annual Convention in Montreal, Canada, July 11 - July 14. In addition, each member of the winning team will receive a $2,000 Stanley Preiser Law Student Award for Trial Advocacy presented by the Melvin M. Belli Society.

Gabriel F. Zambrano was recently nominated a Fellow of The Melvin M. Belli Society and notes that “this competition provides future Trial Lawyers an opportunity to hone their skills while also allowing practicing members to see how Mock Trials have evolved in the past twenty years.”

The American Association for Justice (AAJ) seeks to inspire excellence in trial advocacy through training and education for both law students and practicing attorneys. The association accomplishes this goal in part by sponsoring the National Student Trial Advocacy Competition, an annual nationwide mock trial competition.
