Follow on Google News | Brazil Seeks Public Response to Jewelry Safety ProposalBrazil has opened a public consultation period for a proposal to restrict cadmium and lead in jewelry.
Consultation Period Underway On 28 January 2015, the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) of Brazil published Ordinance No. 60 to launch a 60-day public consultation to restrict cadmium and lead in jewelry (1). Proposed Limits on Cadmium and Lead in Jewelry The proposal - Restricts cadmium content to less than 0.01% (100 mg/kg), - Restricts lead content to less than 0.03% (300 mg/kg), - Requires testing records from accredited labs to be made available to the authorities on request. If enacted, the enforcement date will be - 6 months after publication in the Official Gazette for manufacturers and importers, - 12 months after publication in the Official Gazette for wholesalers and retailers.
