Unexploded Bomb in Bermondsey London Prevents Access to The Hireman’s Head Office

LONDON - March 24, 2015 - PRLog -- The Hireman, a tool hire company with several depots in London, have been prevented from entering their head office due to the discovery of an unexploded bomb. The company’s Head Office is in Abbey Street, Bermondsey, is located just a few hundred metres away from where the bomb has been discovered.

Unexploded WWII bomb unearthed by builders

Builders demolishing a social club discovered the unexploded 1000lb bomb on the 23rd March. It has since been established that the bomb originates from WWII and is thought to have been dropped by Luftwaffe planes during the Blitz on May 11, 1941.

People living and working within 200 metres of the half-ton bomb were told that if they fail to evacuate by 8am on the 24th March, they would be putting ‘their lives at risk’.

Bomb disposal experts are still working to defuse the 5-ft long explosive, which will eventually be removed to a secure location for destruction.

The Hireman is one of many schools, businesses, homes and organisations that have been told to evacuate whilst the bomb is defused. The company has several depots in London, which has allowed them to continue with ‘business-as-usual’. Diverting the phone lines from the head office to the London Central depot has meant that the unexpected event has caused minimal disruption to the company.

The London tool hire firm have stated ‘If you have any problems getting through to head office, please call the depot directly on 020 7232 5630’
