Essex CASA to Host Info Night at Livingston's Senior/Community Center

NEWARK, N.J. - March 24, 2015 - PRLog -- (Court Appointed Special Advocates) CASA for Children of Essex County will host an information night at Livingston’s Senior/Community Center on April 16 at 6:30 PM for citizens interested in making a permanent and safe home, an achievable goal for the growing number of foster youth.

"We are working extremely hard to increase our roster of compassionate and concerned volunteers here in Essex County so more children will get the advocacy they need,” said Rakeem Mosey, Recruitment Coordinator. “We recruit volunteers from all over the county and host these information meetings in a different municipality, quarterly; in order to raise our awareness in those communities.”

Essex County leads New Jersey with the highest number of children in foster care, statewide.  Last year, Essex CASA was able to advocate for 528 children.  Even with growing progress, there are more than 1,700 children in need of this same advocacy.  The organization would like to invite Livingston and local residents to this event to learn about the impact of Advocates in the life of foster children.

“Essex County has consistently been the leader in the number of foster cases in the state,” Karen Burns, Executive Director said.  “Our focus at Essex CASA is always on addressing the demand and making sure more children in need can receive a CASA advocate working on their behalf, representing their needs and best interests to the Judge.  In order for that to happen we need more citizen volunteers to step up.”
