Toronto: Diversity Our Strength. Explore, engage, contribute

TORONTO - March 24, 2015 - PRLog -- Diversity Our Strength – it's the city of Toronto's motto. It's also the name of a new community-building project at insidetoronto.com.

Just recently launched, http://www.insidetoronto.com/diversity is a growing compilation of news, events and resources dedicated to reaching Toronto’s diverse communities. The city is home to people who speak more than 140 languages, half of Toronto’s population was born outside of Canada and it's where nearly half of residents' first language is something other than English.

“Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world,” said Paul Futhey, project lead and editor with Metroland Media Toronto. “It’s important that our readers can discover what matters to them in new and exciting ways.”

Included in the website:

• NEWS: Metroland Media Toronto's news about Toronto's diverse communities: available all in one site section, and also in pages based on world geography.

• EVENTS: photo galleries of recent cultural events as well as links to upcoming community events.

• RESOURCES: helpful tips for newcomers to the city as well as key statistics and a call for directory submissions.

This is just the start, Futhey said.

News tips, event submissions, and self-serve community organization profiles are all ways for the community to use the site. These profiles continue to enhance a directory of organizations that serve Toronto’s diverse communities.

"Our goal is always to find ways to better connect people to their communities," Futhey said. "And we want the community to be a part of this."
