HOUSTON - March 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Houston Massage Practitioner Jerry Casner was a recent guest on Make It Happen with David Lorms, a weekly radio broadcast and podcast hosted by David Lorms.  This edition was hosted by Sally Adams, filling in for Lorms.
Born and raised in Houston, this is a strong, buff young man looks like he could mop up bad guys in an alley, but Adams noted that his kind, gentle nature and quiet confidence are at his forefront.

An early influences came while attending Langham Creek High School. As first chair trombone in the band, he learned to be a leader. His band director guided him into accepting the responsibilities of being a positive influence on other students. For instance, during his senior year the band did away with their initiation practices. "We welcomed the new people and wanted to make them feel a part of the whole band, to become the best musicians and band mates they could be, and instill in them leadership skills for when they became upper classmen," Casner proudly points out.

Adams commented that Casner didn't look like a skinny-teenager-trombone-playing kid any more. How did that happen? Casner smiled as he answered that when he and a friend were 16 they were taken to a gym and introduced to a "miniature Arnold Schwarzenegger" because their parents thought they needed help building confidence.  "I really liked the results I was getting," Casner commented.  "I learned how to eat better and work out efficiently for the best results."  Adams asked if he stayed with it because of the healthful lifestyle he began to live?  "Oh no!  It was all about the girls! That's the positive feedback system we all thrive on!" he laughed.  He learned how to schedule meals, exercise properly and has been doing so ever since.

Casner loves helping people. He enjoys connecting with people and the feeling he gets from it. He eventually worked in a pediatrician's office. "I learned how to take charge of the situation, to lead and not to dominate and make both child and parent comfortable." Leadership skills coming to the surface, he later opened up new offices for that doctor. "You learn a lot about everything from managing vendors and seeing just how undependable they can be to creating a calm space for patients when you open a new office," Casner muses. "One day you're instructing a construction crew and the next selecting fabric for waiting room chairs."

Adams asked Casner about handling the drama of medical service - especially working as an EMT or with sick children.  "I noticed that successful people in the field have learned to compartmentalize their experiences and their feelings about them," said Casner. "It's important to be in charge in high-drama situations and not become emotionally involved.  I have learned to allow energy to flow through me in order to let those feelings go. I allow myself to feel them later and go through the emotions I need to.  Anger and sadness have to be processed."

Now a licensed massage therapist, Casner's Office Studio is in Spring Branch, 1438 Campbell Road just north of I-10.  The location is a good one, between the Beltway and the Loop.  Easy to divert from traffic snarls. Adams asked Casner about the very fist massage he gave.  "I was nervous.  My hands were shaking and my voice was probably cracking.  But my medical experience took over and I concentrated on my client and all things went well." His clientele ranges from native Texans and some who moved here from other countries.

From school teachers to stay-at-home parents.  He has clients who are under 18 who come in with their parents and some who are over 70. "Most come to me to lessen the stress and pain they are experiencing. I have high-level professionals who visit me before they make major presentations. They have prepared the materials they need and want to be as sharp as possible looking confident and feeling chill."

What's the difference between a good massage and a bad one? "A good massage therapist will never take his hands away from his client. He also is intuitively paying attention to his client on the table, adjusting technique to gain the best outcome for the client."

What's the major difference between a chain business massage and yours?  "A full one hour or more is important and that's what you get from an independent therapist.  You'll also deal with the same therapist every time who gets to know your body and your needs."

What are other reasons for your clients coming to you?
"I have had clients who are trying to heal from big accidents and want to come off their pain meds.  They tell me they feel 'foggy' during the day and don't like it. I help their bodies push out the toxins and get muscles from all over the body work together.  People who travel a lot want the massage to help them regulate their sleep patterns again. Traveling can be so stressful."

Why does Massage Jerry stay with massage?  "I especially like massage because I can use my medical knowledge and experience to help my clients function better physically. This leads to better mental health as well. I get to know many people personally and enjoy learning what motivates them every day.  I love making the total experience a good one and leave my clients in 'massage euphoria'."

A question from a caller:  In the State of Texas, do you wear your underwear during a massage?  "Whatever the therapist and client decide upon.  Trust may have to be built between the two at first." Massage Jerry's philosophy of life," By learning and gaining wisdom from others, we gain wisdom and understanding."
