Mike Doherty Hired as Director of Learning and Continual Improvement for Shermco Industries, Canada

REGINA, Saskatchewan - March 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Shermco Industries today announced it has hired Mike Doherty as director of Learning and Continual Improvement for Shermco Canada.

Doherty has more than 40 years industrial and electrical utility experience as a licensed electrician, instrumentation technician, control technician, electrical skills instructor at Ontario Hydro, electrical utility safety department professional and electrical safety trainer.

Doherty formerly served as the H & S manager and consultant, a high voltage specialist in transmission, distribution and substation construction and maintenance, at PowerTel Utilities Contractors Limited.

He has served as the technical committee Chair of CSA Z462 - Workplace Electrical Safety since inception in 2006, and is a member of the NFPA 70E technical committee as the official liaison between Canada (CSA) and U.S.A. (NFPA) for electrical safety.

Doherty is an IEEE Senior Member, Petroleum & Chemical Industry Committee (PCIC) Emeritus, a voting member of IEEE 1584 and is the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Committee - Construction Subcommittee Chair. He was the Chair of the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshops in Calgary, AB in 2007. He is an associate member of the Canadian Standards Association Strategic Steering Committee on Occupational H & S, and a co-teacher in the on-line Professional Studies section of the University of Alabama / Birmingham’s (UAB) certificate program called an “Introduction to Electrical Safety Management.” He is currently a featured monthly columnist for Electricity Business Magazine called “Electrical Safety 360”.

Doherty was the 2013 recipient of the IEEE IAS Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee (PCIC) Electrical Safety Excellence Award in Chicago, IL. The award recognizes PCIC members for outstanding dedication and contributions made to advance and accelerate the dispersion of information and knowledge impacting electrical safety through activities in and outside the PCIC.
