Pat LaFontaine to Speak at Sports Concussion Symposium at Adelphi University on March 30

 
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - March 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Adelphi University’s Center for Health Innovation and Winthrop University Hospital’s Sports Medicine Program are co-hosting a lecture and panel on sports concussions at the Angello Alumni House at Adelphi University, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, NY on Monday March 30, 2015 from 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Featured panelists including Pat LaFontaine will speak on the current state of prevention and treatment of sports concussion. A balance demonstration with Adelphi faculty will kick-off this event.

Pat LaFontaine was an ice hockey center who played for the New York Islanders, the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers before his career was ended by concussions. He has since been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and has founded the non-profit Companions in Courage Foundation, which builds interactive game rooms in children’s hospital.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Kevin Curley is an attending physician at Winthrop University Hospital, Board Certified in internal and sports medicine and is the sports physician for Adelphi University. Before he joined Winthrop, he cared for professional and collegiate athletes including the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers and Rowan University.

Introductions and remarks will be delivered by Dr. Michael Kennedy, Board Certified sports and emergency medicine physician.

Dr. Mark Grossman, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and currently the team physician for Adelphi University’s Athletic Program will serve as the moderator, with featured panelist Don Gronachan, Dr. Ann Cornell-Bell, Dr. Rupi Johal and Pat LaFontaine.
