Dr. Duane T. Kay serves as the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church, Incorporated of North Brentwood, Maryland. After being elected on October 17, 2010, Dr. Kay was installed as the sixth pastor in the church's 106-year history, on May 14, 2011. Dr. Kay is a native of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and is the son of Minister and Deaconess Ovander Kay.  Dr. Kay is happily married to the former Evelyn Renee Wilson, of Edwardsville, Virginia. Dr. and Mrs. Kay's marriage has been further enriched by the birth of their four children.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1997, with a major in Political Science and a minor in Religious Studies. After submitting to the call to the preaching ministry, Dr. Kay pursued further theological training at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Dr. Kay was licensed into the preaching ministry by the Beulah Baptist Church of Woodford, Virginia, under the leadership the late Rev. James E. Preast, Jr. After receiving the call to pastor the Saint Luke Baptist Church of Ruther Glen, Virginia, he was ordained into the ministry by Beulah, in 1998. In May of 2000, Dr. Kay graduated from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, and was awarded the Master of Divinity degree.

After nearly four years of pastoral leadership at Saint Luke, Dr. Kay became the Assistant to the Pastor in Administrative Specialty at the First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In February, 2004, Dr. Kay became the pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia, where he served for six years.  Dr. Kay earned the Doctor of Ministry degree, in May 2011, at the Wesley Theological Seminary, with a concentration in Missional Evangelism. His thesis, €œSpeaking Truth to Power: The Practice of Advocacy, addressed the church's historic and current roles in prophetically confronting oppressive policies and practices that shackle communities.

He has been privileged to minister and preach in other countries through his participation in the Pastoral Excellence Program of the Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention. Through this program he experienced and partnered with other pastors in Guyana, Jamaica, and South Africa. As a result, he continues to embrace the importance of the church's engagement in local, as well as global issues.  As a servant of God, Dr. Kay is humbled by the call to proclaim the Gospel. He considers it a great honor to serve in the Kingdom and to have the purpose of edifying the body of Christ. As a husband, father, son, brother, and pastor, Dr. Kay is committed to God and fulfilling the purposes for which he has been designed.
