National theatrical production company has a new play in the works slated for a world premiere on April 10, 2012, in Denver, Colorado. Goddess People is a three-act play that unfolds on the stage in real time. Goddess People tells the tale of six people who intend to spend a leisurely afternoon in a fashionable shop located in resort town in the Middle East. Friends, this is their standard course. Taking tea and chatting are the order of day, as is usually the case for them.

As the clock ticks, the small group of people assembled in the shop slowly learn that their town is under siege by insurgents intent on taking the village by force. Ultimately, they realize that they are not likely to leave the shop alive. Goddess People is a character study of how six very different people face what is likely to be the final minutes of their life.

Goddess People is to be staged at the Skylite Station in the 910 ARTS Center at 910 Santa Fe Drive in the Arts District on Santa Fe in Denver. Eric Tausch stars as Adil, the owner of the shop where the events of the play unfold in real time.

“The best part of being cast in Goddess People is that it is a truly wonderful story. Having writer Mike Broemmel on set and being surrounded by such a talented cast and crew have also being part of Goddess People’s original cast an awesome experience,” Tausch said.

Tausch explained that the most challenging part of the production for him has been the “the continuum of dynamic action taking place on such small stage.” He explained: “The exciting part of this, though, is that Director Dakotah Watson intentionally created the small stage to provide an incredibly intimate experience for the audience. The audience surrounds the stage on three sides and is so close to the action that it would be difficult for them not to feel like a part of the story.”

Tausch also discussed the individual in the performing arts that has provided her with the greatest inspiration. “Kevin Spacey is my inspiration because he makes any role seem like it was written specifically for him. Whether he’s playing a creepy dad in American Beauty, a “crippled” criminal mastermind in The Usual Suspects, a secretly-bisexual-and-murderer President of the United States in House of Cards, or dancing and singing a barbershop rendition of “Talk Dirty to Me” alongside Jimmy Fallon, his spectrum seems endless,” Tausch said.

Tausch explained that he is fond of his character in Goddess People, the shop owner Adil. “I love Adil because he represents the strength and humility of the people I worked with daily in Iraq. He may be the most complex character in the production because his true nature is barely revealed at all. He nearly succeeds in hiding his choices to keep those he loves safe and sacrifice himself if necessary under the veil of a “grumpy shopkeeper,” and he almost completely obscures the fact that he’s likely got 40-50 years experience with violence,” Tausch remarked.

Tausch wished that his character’s relationship with Lady Pakenham had been explored a bit more significantly in the play. “There’s so much beauty between Adil and Lady Pakenham that never gets explored; it drives me nuts not to know it! The same goes for the relationship between Adil and LaLila,” he noted.

In summing up the production and what he hopes theater-goers get from the play, Tausch concluded: “Goddess People uniquely melds love, suspense, humor, drama, and action in such an intimate setting that it will be difficult for the audience not to feel they are part of the story. It is definitely the Hershey’s Kiss of productions.”
