Follow on Google News | New Research from Outsell Highlights the State of Information ManagementAnnual report focuses on critical benchmarks for libraries and information centers.
By: Outsell, Inc. As part of Outsell’s ongoing monitoring of the information management function, the company annually surveys budget-holders and decision-makers of hundreds of libraries. The survey and data cover budgets, spending on content, types of content, staffing, vendor relations, and content contracts. Outsell analyzes the data and compares it to its database of historical data and trends within the industry. “Our data-based analysis indicates that IM executives continue to struggle to maintain the status quo,” said Jim Hydock, VP & Practice Leader of Outsell’s Information Management practice and author of the report. “Budget increases dwindle in the face of rising costs, and IM managers have to demonstrate value or face further cuts. IM is at a tipping point, and new ways of executing are needed to survive.” Key findings from Outsell include: · Budget increases are marginal at best, hovering around 4% for corporate buyers, and neutralized by rising content prices. · Delivering high-quality content to end-users takes top priority over other areas. · Because of IM managers’ other priorities, their efforts to market the IM function to the enterprise are minimal.
