BELLINGHAM, Wash. - March 20, 2015 - PRLog -- An English monk. An American physician. An unlikely connection. A story that defies the logic of time and space, Almost a Millennium brings together two unlikely people in a new historical fiction that challenges readers’ imaginations. The newly released novel is published by Outskirts Press.

Paul from Glastonbury struggles with his true life’s purpose. Left alone after his parents are killed, Paul is befriended by a hermit, then works a farm, marries and is soon widowed. The events, along with his witnessing of significant happenings in medieval times, leave him at a crossroads that eventually lead him to Llanthony Abbey in Wales.

Fred, on the other hand, knows his future. The physician is certain of his path – until the death of his parents. Now struggling with his faith, he finds himself laboring to reach his goals, while questioning the presence of God.

But the good doctor is soon introduced to an ancient manuscript, written in medieval times.  Through his readings, he deciphers a coded text that completely changes him – and solidifies his connection to the mysterious monk.

Every third chapter describes the Norman invasion of England in 1066, the life and times of the Anglo-Saxons, the working of monasticism, the death of William I, Mohammad and the Arabian Golden Age, the first Crusade, the Mainz massacre, and the beginning of Paul’s Llanthony Abbey.

Almost a Millennium follows two compelling protagonists from birth, traveling through time to their adulthood. Separated by location and time, the vivid characters experience the trials of Medieval and modern life, witness romance, rape, murder and the challenges of life and religious crises in their times. The historical fiction breathes life into historical and modern figures and events, bringing readers into the real world – of the past and the present.

Almost a Millennium is available online through Outskirts Press at www.outskirtspress.com/bookstore. The book is sold through Amazon and Barnes and Noble for a maximum trade discount in quantities of 10 or more, and is being aggressively promoted to appropriate markets with a focus on the history, fiction, medieval, religion and theism categories.
