GUARDIAN AD LITEM FOUNDATION- 20TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT AWARDS YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION GRANT

FORT MYERS, FL (March 19, 2015)

The Lee County Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Division (YLD) received a $3500 grant on behalf of the Guardian ad Litem Foundation-20th Judicial Circuit. The GAL Foundation raises funds to recruit and train volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children, and to address the children’s unmet social, health and educational needs.  The Lee County YLD’s grant was awarded to help fund the Foundation’s Beds for Kids Program.  Through the Beds for Kids Program, children without a bed may be provided a bed, bedding and a stuffed animal to sleep with.

Lee County’s YLD applied for and received the grant through the Florida Bar Association, which offers grants to local young lawyers divisions in support of charitable activities. The Lee County division presented their grant idea to representatives of the Florida Bar at their Annual Affiliate Outreach Conference, which was held in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Lee County’s YLD consists of local attorneys who have either been practicing law for five years or less, or who are 35 years of age or younger. The YLD focuses most of its philanthropic endeavors toward local children in need. In addition to working with the GAL program, the YLD also organizes a holiday event called Holidays in January for local foster children through the Children's Network of Southwest Florida.
