KENT, Ohio - March 18, 2015 - PRLog -- College of Business Administration Associate Professor and Interim Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation Sergey Anokhin, Ph. D. was awarded “Paper of Distinction” at the Australian Centre for Entrepreneurship Research Exchange Conference (ACERE).

Anokhin co-authored the research paper entitled “Family Ownership, Multiunit Franchising Strategies, and Performance,” with Andrey Kretinin a marketing and entrepreneurship doctoral candidate, Joakim Wincent, former Bridgestone Chair of Marketing and visiting research fellow at Kent State’s College of Business Administration, and Franz Kellermanns from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

“In this paper we demonstrate that franchise networks with substantial family control are more likely to rely on multiunit franchising strategies where the same franchisee is allowed to operate multiple outlets than franchise networks without family control,” Anokhin said.  “We arrived at these conclusions after studying several dozens of U.S.-based franchise networks over the period of 2004-2012 on a quarterly basis.”

Anokhin and the co-authors presented their paper at the ACERE Conference, which took place in February in Adelaide, Australia. The 11th annual entrepreneurship-based conference includes pitching and discussion sessions along with keynote speakers and interactive panel sessions.

Anokhin received his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 2006. He has taught doctoral, MBA and undergraduate courses in strategy, global management and entrepreneurship delivered in traditional, online and blended formats.

His research interests include entrepreneurship and innovation management in a variety of contexts. His pioneering work on capturing arbitrage opportunities has provided novel insights into new venture creation as well as entrepreneurial migration. He also researches social entrepreneurship and works on developing metrics for social innovation.

Anokin was named the Interim Chair of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation (CEBI) in 2013. The mission of the center is built upon the pillars of student experiences and education, entrepreneurial research and community outreach.

To supplement CEBI’s mission, the Michael D. Solomon Entrepreneurship Speaker Series is hosted to bring experienced entrepreneurs and educators on campus each semester to share their insights and wisdom. Matthew E. Likens, president and CEO of Ulthera, Inc. will be the keynote speaker at the spring 2015 Michael D. Solomon Speaker Series on April 22, 2015 presenting “From Zero to $600M and Lessons Learned Along the Way” at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center.
