BOSTON FLUTE ACADEMY PRESENTS: An Evening of Art Songs for Flute, Soprano and Piano featuring a World Premiere Song Cycle by Award-Winning New Composer, Brandon Scott Rumsey.

BOSTON - March 20, 2015 - PRLog -- Boston Flute Academy presents BFA Artist-in-Residence, flutist Brendan V. Ryan in recital with the 2015 Opera Foundation Scholarship winner, soprano Kate Fruchterman and Boston University staff pianist, Christina Wright-Ivanova.  Brimming with expressive art songs by historic composers including Debussy, Ravel, and Corigliano, the program will present a World Premiere song cycle, Remembering the Clouds, by new composer Brandon Scott Rumsey.  The song cycle revolves around the prose of Irish poets both past and present.  Concert takes place at the Maliotis Cultural Center in Brookline, on Saturday, April 4th, 2015 at 7:30p.m.  The recital event will also include an exhibit by the Levit Flute company, maker of fine flutes.  Free parking and free admission.

About Boston Flute Academy Artist-in-Residence Brendan V. Ryan

Brendan V. Ryan, the Boston Flute Academy 2014 – 2015 Artist-in-Residence, is an exciting up-and-coming musician who has performed in concert halls across the world.  Mr. Ryan was a First Prize winner in the 2013 Alexander Buono International Flute Competition and was thusly offered a solo performance in Carnegie Hall in October of 2013.  He is a substitute Principal Flutist for the Lexington Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jonathan McPhee. Originally from Needham, Massachusetts, Mr. Ryan recently graduated with a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin where he studied with flute soloist and former Acting Principal Flute of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Marianne Gedigian.  He is an honors graduate from the University of Southern California where he studied with Jim Walker.  Mr. Ryan also spent a year studying under Jeannie Baxtresser at CMU.  Prior to his college studies, Mr. Ryan trained for 5 years with Boston flutist Judy Grant.  Mr. Ryan was selected as an Associate Member for the Civic Orchestra of Chicago’s 2014-2015 season.  He has been a Yale Fellow at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and looks forward to attending the 2015 Sarasota Chamber Music Festival.

About Soprano Kate Fruchterman

Kate Fruchterman, soprano, is a native of Palo Alto, California.  She has most recently been seen as Suor Genovieffa in Mannes Opera’s fall production of Suor Angelica.  Other recent roles include Cleopatra, Corinna, Despina and Pamina.  An active recitalist, she has performed in Los Angeles, Kansas City, and the San Francisco Bay Area.  She currently studies at Mannes College in Manhattan, where she will finish her Masters degree later this spring.  As a winner of the 2015 Opera Foundation Scholarship, she will be relocating to Turin, Italy, where she will be singing with the Teatro Regio di Torino for the 2015-16 season.

About Pianist Christina Wright-Ivanova

Dr. Christina Wright-Ivanovais described as a “perfect partner” by Klassik Newsletter Berlin and a “brilliant collaborative pianist” by Wiener Zeitung (Vienna). She is currently Staff Pianist at Boston University and Coach at the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra.  She is a former faculty member of the French-American Vocal Academy and the American Institute for Musical Studies.  She will join the Vocal Coach Faculty of the Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Program in Summer 2015.  Recordings on ARS Produktion, New Dynamic Records.  DMA, University of Texas at Austin; MMus, New England Conservatory. www.christinajwright.com.

About Composer Brandon Scott Rumsey

Brandon Scott Rumsey (b. 1987, Las Vegas, NV) is an award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist, educator, and interdisciplinary collaborator whose music has been featured at venues across the nation.  Brandon’s music has been featured by the New York Festival of Song, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts Global Composition Seminar, University of Texas New Music Ensemble, Brevard Music Center, New Music on the Point and the Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble.  He has received honors from the American Composers Orchestra, ASCAP and Luna Nova Music.  Brandon’s vocal music, praised by Robert Aldridge, Paul Sperry, Tom Cipullo, Lori Laitman, has been recognized for its distinguishable harmonic language, lyricism, and emotional directness.  Brandon is pursuing a doctoral degree in composition at the University of Michigan, studying composition with Bright Sheng and bassoon with Jeffrey Lyman.  He holds a master’s degree in composition from The University of Texas at Austin.
