KENT, Ohio - March 17, 2015 - PRLog -- College of Business Administration student, Vince Shannon is a 2015 Expys finalist in the Best Intern category, presented by NEOIntern and Cleveland Business Connects.

Shannon, a Kent State senior majoring in business management has been a Sales and Social Media Intern for the PGA Tour and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational since May 2014. He is currently working on his third internship with the company.

“As a Sales and Social Media Intern, I have had a variety of job responsibilities. In my marketing role, I facilitated and created the content for social media resulting in an increase in Facebook "Likes" by 10 percent and Twitter followers by 30 percent,” Shannon said. “I also implemented the digital media strategy that reached more than seven million people during the tournament. Plus, I introduced a new initiative, a "Ten Day Countdown" of golf inspired pictures to add momentum leading up to the event.”

Shannon’s success in his marketing role was evident through increased sales.

“In my sales role, I assisted in generating $4 million in sales to increase charitable dollars through business development,” said Shannon. “I helped support a 90% renewal rate among corporate sponsors, created PowerPoint decks for prospective clients and restructured elements in client contracts to increase revenue on a year by year basis. Additionally, I created tournament hospitality suite video sales presentations to provide virtual tours for prospective clients.”

“Vince interacted with tournament staff and more than 1,000 volunteers. He has done an exceptional job during his internship for the Bridgestone Invitational,” said Donald Padgett, Shannon’s Internship manager. “I have seen firsthand Vince’s professional development during his time with the tournament, and we look forward to his continued role in the 2015 tournament.”

Shannon found his internship through the College of Business Administration’s Career Services Office.

The College of Business Administration has a dedicated Career Services Office providing more than 150 internships per year for students with Business majors and minors.

“As part of my role, I send out weekly emails to all business students who have opted into the listserv. This email provides students insight into the type jobs and intern opportunities employers are searching to fill,” said Mandy McNamee, internship coordinator for the College of Business Administration’s Career Services Office. “This gives our business students a leg up on the competition since the jobs and internships we post come directly from employers recruiting and these leads often turn into great opportunities for our business students.

The 2015 Expys will take place March 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Windows on the River in Cleveland, Ohio. More than 300 corporate and higher education professionals are expected to be in attendance.
