HOUSTON - March 17, 2015 - PRLog -- LIFE AFTER FOOTBALL made its broadcast debut on Tuesday, March 10, (7:00-8:00 PM, CST) on MJWJ Global Radio Network (http://www.mjwjtalkradio.com).  The one-hour live show will air every Tuesday on the global internet radio station.  It will explore a wide range of topics related to football focused on the athlete often unprepared for life after the sport.  LIFE AFTER FOOTBALL will tackle a new topic each week and provide an open format for retired football players to voice opinions.

The program offers a unique approach and perspective from a retired player’s point of view – “life after.”  A variety of guests, including high-profile former athletes, psychiatrists and personality experts will share their experiences, expertise, knowledge and opinions. Show moments will include football nostalgia, feedback from peers and guys who have been there.  Their discussions will paint a picture of situations former players face once their career on the field is over.

Host, Delvin Williams is a former All Pro Running Back who was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 1974 NFL draft.  The University of Kansas graduate also played for the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers. Williams enjoyed a stellar football career playing for a total of eight seasons. When he was named first team All-Pro, he became the first player in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards for two different teams, and named to the Pro Bowl for an AFC & NFC team.  He has been out of football for over three decades and is still ranked in the NFL’s top 100 rushers of all time.

“We have suffered in silence from our injuries, the loss of families, and the loss of our dignity,” stated Williams. “It was important for me to do a sports talk show like this because it gives the players a voice and to know that someone will listen. Sometimes that’s all it takes is to be heard, it can be that simple.”

Delvin has been a longtime proponent and voice for athletes facing issues and challenges of moving on after leaving their sport. After retiring, he spearheaded several successful programs, one of which sought to curb substance abuse among youth, as executive director and founder of “Pros for Kids.” He leveraged his experience as a professional athlete to create National Sports Career Management. NSCM contracted with the United States football league and became the first prevention education program in professional sports history. He continues to push the need for support programs such as the Association of Sports and Athletic Professionals (ASAP) and Athletes Reengagement Alliance (ARA). More recently, he formed the Kashmere Former Athletes Association (KFAA) to give back to his former high school. KFAA’s mission is to connect, support and advocate while engaging former student- athletes to build lifelong friendships that support and encourage future Kashmere High athletes.

LIFE AFTER FOOTBALL is an extension of all those efforts. Fans of the game oftentimes see the glory in the life of a professional athlete and glimpses of downsides in their careers but never fully understand the whole story.  This show will delve into their narratives, step by step. “We’ll talk about how an athlete can go bankrupt after having millions of dollars or why some end up on drugs, as well as the suffering we endure from countless injuries on the field,” said Williams.

LIFE AFTER FOOTBALL’s global reach will give us the opportunity to engage with our listeners nationwide, take their calls and hear their feedback. The goal for the audience is to walk away with a deeper understanding and insight into a player’s transition from professional football, while simultaneously having fun as we learn about each other.
