SAN FRANCISCO - March 16, 2015 - PRLog -- COPUS HITS THE TOP OF THE MARK

The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins has partnered with The Beat Museum to present a 9-week poetry series to celebrate the birth of the Beat Generation in San Francisco. The series begins March 3rd and continues every Tuesday night through the end of April. Spoken word/jazz ensemble COPUS will be performing on Tuesday, March 31st, from 6:30-8:30pm at the world-famous Top of the Mark restaurant and lounge overlooking the City of San Francisco.

COPUS is a spoken word with world beat ensemble that weaves together dynamic lyrical forms with passionate, melodic landscapes. Formed by renowned San Francisco poet Royal Kent and ASCAP award-winning composer Wendy Loomis, the group has performed at clubs, theaters, and festivals in the San Francisco Bay Area and around the country. The band includes flutist Monica Williams, bassist Patrick Mahon, drummer Greg McRay, percussionist Omar Clark Taylor, along with pianist Wendy Loomis and spoken word artist Royal Kent. In the words of music critic Michael Allison, “COPUS could become legendary if given the opportunity to thrive!” The band will be releasing a new album in the summer of 2015.

“The Beats” – as in beaten down and beatific – was a collective of writers, artists and thinkers who congregated in 1950s San Francisco. Located in North Beach, the Beat Museum was established in 2003 with the goal of carrying on the Beat’s legacy through its extensive collection of manuscripts and memorabilia, as well as producing live events that present poetry to new audiences.

Located on the 19th floor of the Mark Hopkins Hotel, the Top of the Mark is a San Francisco restaurant with a 360-degree panorama view that includes the San Francisco skyline, the Bay Bridge, and the Golden Gate.

A popular local destination since its opening in 1939, Top of the Mark has hosted World War II servicemen, along with numerous celebrities and dignitaries.
