Indianapolis-based Philanthropist, Josh Driver wants to start putting a positive spin on emerging “religious freedom” legislation by launching an awareness campaign called, “Open For Service” (http://www.openforservice.org).  This grassroots initiative promotes businesses from startups to large corporations that will allow people of all walks of life to never worry about being turned away.

“I feel like that has been too much media coverage about the few businesses nationally that have turned people away because of who they are or what they believe.  I want to bring positivity back and promote those who believe in an ‘open door economy’” states Josh.  “I like the term – ‘open door economy’ because I want to know where I am valued.”

Open For Service is selling 4”x4” circular stickers that businesses can purchase for only $10.00.  The net proceeds will be donated to SCORE (http://www.score.org), SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. We have been doing this for over fifty years.

In only 4 days from launch, Open For Service has had over 100 business sign up and 1200+ followers on social media.  Josh attributes this overnight success to sticking with an open mission.  “This isn’t a political statement, nor a slam to religion, as there are people from all sides of the aisle that own and/or support businesses that are not going to turn people away.  The public wants to know where to take their money and not be concerned that they could potentially be denied the opportunity to conduct business.”

The operating costs for Open For Service are very low.  Josh hopes that he can leverage partnerships and his extensive knowledge in marketing technology and fundraising to continue to keep a low overhead and maximize funds for distribution to SCORE.  Thanks to friend and fellow partner, Andy Markle, Open For Service has a really great message and customer-friendly brand that resonates well with everyone.

Future plans for this campaign are to add an online badge for business that operate online-only, and evaluate how the public can become a part of this that may not own a company.  Josh has begun to build the specifications for a searchable database on the campaign’s website to allow people to find companies that believe in an ‘open door economy’.  “My hope is to work with larger retail/restaurant chains that can help bring a nation-wide presence to our efforts,” Josh explains, “overwhelmingly we see companies looking to new innovative ways to inform the public that they will not turn people away, and I hope that I can provide that to them for the long term.”

You can sign up and buy a sticker at http://www.openforservice.org.  Questions and media requests can be directed to info@openforservice.org.
