Local Author Launches Debut Fantasy Novel Inspired by Centennial of the First World War

“Fantasy Novel that Reads Like Historical Fiction” to Launch March 29 at Toronto’s Polish Combatants’ Association

TORONTO - March 14, 2015 - PRLog -- Local author Brian Gottheil of Toronto will launch his debut fantasy novel, Gateways, on March 29, 2015. In addition to readings and signings by the author, the launch party will feature performances by local dance troupe That Swing! (Toronto’s premier 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s dance company), as well as sought-after swing and blues DJ Gabrielle Kern of Montreal.

Gateways was a finalist in the BookBzz.com Prize Writer Contest, and early reviews have described it as “a fantastic blend of war strategy, political relations, mystery, and magic”; “an excellent debut novel which will keep you entertained from start to finish”; and “exactly the kind of historically-inspired fantasy I enjoy the most.”

Gottheil says that the centennial of the First World War (1914-18) and his passion for dispute resolution in his work as a lawyer were both inspirations for his novel. “Gateways features battles, plots, assassination attempts, mysteries and magic, but fundamentally it is the story of a pacifist politician trying to end a gruesome conflict,” Gottheil explains. “None of the combatants are the ‘bad guys’ in the novel; the antagonist is the war itself. The horrors of World War I seemed to me the perfect setting for this kind of story, but it also draws a great deal from the diplomacy and negotiation that lawyers do every day to resolve conflicts without the ‘war’ of a courtroom.”

The launch party will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Polish Combatants’ Association, 206 Beverley Street in Toronto. Gottheil is also available for interviews and appearances at other times. For booking presentations, media appearances, interviews, and/or book-signings contact BGnovels@gmail.com or 416-389-4653.
