The Green rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment acclaimed as GRIHA has been developed by TERI (The Energy and Resource Institute) New Delhi, a non-profitable research organization. The Government of India had accepted GRIHA as the country’s national rating system for green buildings in the year 2007. The counting that has reached to 575 residential projects at present is expected to go further with the addition of 150 more projects by the end of this year.

GRIHA provides Green rating along with certification to buildings based of distinct parameters like energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation and other resource utilization amenities focusing on the sustainability of the environment.  Evaluating the environmental performance of a building during its entire life, GRIHA hands over a definitive standard for what is supposed to constitute a Green Building.
