BELFAST, Ireland - March 13, 2015 - PRLog -- - Two weeks from now, on Wednesday 25th March, thirteen brownfield experts including Kyle M Alexander OBE (Maze Long Kesh Development Corporation), Simon Kirk (Department of the Environment), John O’Connor (The Housing Agency, Republic of Ireland) and Theresa Kearney (Northern Ireland Environment Agency) convene in Belfast to deliver practical insights into the implications of imminent reforms to Northern Ireland’s Planning System, and to offer strategies for managing and developing brownfield projects efficiently and cost-effectively under the new regime.

The Planning System reforms, which include the transfer of planning functions to 11 new local councils in Northern Ireland, are due to take place in April 2015. The majority of contaminated land and groundwater issues are dealt with under the Planning regime, and so it is critical that all professionals involved in brownfield development have a thorough understanding of this reform and the impact it will have.

The one-day event, organised by online news publication Brownfield Briefing, also tackles the wider issues of assessment and management of risks arising from contaminated groundwater, waste management and asbestos in soil in brownfield sites.
