OMAHA, Neb. - March 12, 2015 - PRLog -- OMAHA, Neb., March 12, 2015- Next week, poetry students from 32 Council Bluffs, Lincoln, Norfolk and Omaha-area high schools will gather together for The Nebraska Writers Collective’s, 4th annual Slam poetry competition: Louder Than a Bomb: Great Plains. Preliminary events begin on March 17th, at UNL Nebraska Union Auditorium.  Omaha will play host to the remaining bouts. Prelim rounds begin at Metro Community College Fort Campus, and UNO Milo Bail Ballroom, March 18th – 24th.  Final rounds to be held in April.  (See full schedule online at ltabgreatplains.org/schedule) The event is free and open to the public, donations accepted.

The non-profit organization, Nebraska Writers Collective, (http://newriters.org/) brought LTAB to Omaha for a 2011-2012 season and 12 Nebraska high schools fielded teams. The NWC secured enough funding to bring the program to 23 schools in the 2012-2013 season, and expanded to 32 schools in 2013-2014.  LTAB works in more than 35 schools today.

Semi-final rounds take place April 7th and 8th at the Joslyn Art Museum and the Durham Museum in Omaha. Team Finals will be held at the Holland Performing Arts Center April 20th.  The festival ends in Lincoln with Individual Finals on May 2nd. Many workshops and events take place throughout the festival, which begins in schools every Fall and culminates in a friendly tournament throughout March and April of the following year. (LTAB)

LTAB has impacted thousands of metro students and provided paid work opportunities for accomplished area poets... It focuses on cooperation, with teams of students working together to write, revise, and rehearse their own creative performances. The festival was founded in 2001 by Young Chicago Authors, ‘to bring teens together across racial, gang, and socio-economic lines… [and] emphasizes self-expression and community via poetry, oral story-telling, and hip-hop spoken word.’ (LTAB).

Founded in 2008, Nebraska Writers Collective is an Omaha-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that promotes creative writing and performance poetry throughout the Midwest.  NWC’s mission has expanded to encompass all forms of creative literary expression. The NWC pursues this mission via hands-on writing workshops, by bringing nationally-known performance poets to Nebraska, and by working with other organizations to provide a variety of literary outreach programs. All of these programs are designed to provide paid work opportunities that help retain local talent in Nebraska and to attract world-class writers to Nebraska. (NWC)
