PHOENIX - March 12, 2015 - PRLog -- One of the most common and among the most dangerous cancers, melanoma has seen some tremendous leaps in research, particularly in immunotherapy, which continues to increase our understanding of how to treat melanoma at various stages of the disease. On Saturday, March 28th, in Tempe, Arizona, Patient Power, Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Melanoma Research Alliance will hold a free in-person melanoma town meeting for patients and caregivers at the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at the Buttes.

Titled “Update on Melanoma: Today's Research, Tomorrow's Medicine”, this is a meeting where patients and caregivers can hear the latest melanoma news from leading melanoma experts. The participants include Mark Gimbel, MD, Surgical Oncologist with Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, Sapna Patel, MD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Melanoma Medical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Michael Wong, MD, PhD, Head of the Solid Tumors Section, Skin Cancer and Melanoma Clinics at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.  The event will be hosted by Patient Power’s founder, Andrew Schorr, and Patient Power’s online host and patient advocate Carol Preston will be an on-the-scene reporter.

The experts will discuss emerging therapies, how to understand current treatment options, and explain about support resources.

During this interactive town meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and connect with experts, other patients, survivors, and caregivers touched by melanoma.

Melanoma patients and their families and caregivers are invited to attend in person for this free town meeting to learn:
