Tommy Tune

Back By Popular Demand

Broadway’s only 9-time winner of the prestigious Tony Award,  Tommy Tune is widely recognized as  one of the world’s most prolific director/choreographers, who has enchanted audiences over the past 50 years with his charisma, vision and innovation. A native Texan, Mr. Tune began his career as a dancer in the Broadway shows Baker Street, A Joyful Noise and How Now Dow Jones. He would soon step out of the chorus and into a principal role in the Broadway musical Seesaw, which won him his first Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. His first Broadway directing and choreography credits were for the original production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Tune has been honored with an unprecedented nine Tony Awards celebrating him as a performer, choreographer and director (Best Actor in a Musical for My One and Only, Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Seesaw, Best Choreography for A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, My One and Only, Grand Hotel and The Will Rogers Follies, and Best Direction of a Musical for Nine, Grand Hotel and The Will Rogers Follies).

In addition, Tune has been awarded eight Drama Desk Awards, three Astaire Awards and the Society of Directors and Choreographers’ George Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement. Film credits include Hello Dolly and The Boyfriend, and he made his Las Vegas debut as the star of EFX at the MGM Grand Hotel. Tune is the recipient of The National Medal of Arts, the highest honor for artistic achievement given by the President of the United States, and he has been honored with his own star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2009, he was designated a Living Landmark by the New York Landmarks Conservancy. This is Mr. Tune’s second appearance at The Colony Hotel’s Royal Room.

Reviews of Tommy Tune

+  Stephen Holden in The New York Times: Tommy Tune “still radiates the boyish ingenuousness of a Texas hayseed newly arrived in the big city to gape in wonder at the lights of Broadway. New York City may be the only place large enough to reckon with his talent. At once gawky and graceful, this limber, toe-tapping showbiz oxymoron is still a gosh, golly, gee-whiz kind of guy: an endearing naïf.”

+  David A. Frye, Palm Beach Daily News: Tommy “Tune tells his tall tales through a select collection of pop and show tunes, stitched together with show-biz anecdotes and accented by the occasional eight bars or so of tap. The show has impressive production elements that extend the performance beyond the cabaret genre into almost a mini-musical.”

+  The Washington Post:  “For a man (past) 70, Tommy Tune is still strikingly cute… in skinny jeans and with his collar popped, looking like a kid ready for his first big break… A traditionalist to the core, a sentimental link to the era before jukebox musicals and animated extravaganzas, a latter-day Fred Astaire… Tune’s between-songs patter got a bit show-bizzy at times, but… by and large, the old song-and-dance vaudeville vocabulary was invoked with uncommon class.”

The Cost to Attend Billy Stritch & Jim Caruso

For each guest there will be a $75 cover charge, plus a $20 minimum for food and beverage.
