NEW YORK - March 11, 2015 - PRLog -- The kimono symposium starts at Kenninji Temple in Kyoto City, Japan on March 27, 2015 at 1 pm in cerebration of the Rinpa 400th anniversary, under the sponsorship of Kimono Artisan Kyoto, Ministry of Economy in Japan, Kyoto City, and Kyoto Prefecture. US-based kimono fashion designer / stylist, Hiromi Asai, a founder of Kimono Hiro / MODE & CLASSIC, participates this kimono symposium as a panelist and discusses about the future of kimono from a global perspective.

"Rinpa" (which can also be spelled "Rimpa") is a term which refers to a distinctive style of Japanese art which arose in the early 17th century. Literally Rinpa means "school of Korin" and derives its name from the painter Ogata Korin, but Rinpa is thought to be originated from the art produced by Hon-ami Koetsu who open his artistic village in the northern region of Kyoto in 1615. Rinpa artists worked in various formats: screens, fans and hanging scrolls, lacquerware, ceramics, and kimono textiles. Rinpa art is characterized by boldness, simplification, and abbreviation, and predicts the trend of the modern art and design.

Kimono is a Japanese sophisticated garment with a long history, over one thousand years. Kimono culture and art flourished about 300-400 years ago at the same time as Rinpa flourished. Since then, Rinpa hugely affects kimono design and motifs up to the present time. In this kimono symposium, experts from various fields, including Hiromi Asai, and public officials from Japanese government, Kyoto City, and Kyoto Prefecture discuss about the future of kimono and kimono business. All the panelists try to open a new era for kimono. Hiromi Asai emphasizes the potential of kimono, which would be recognized as one of formal wears in the world.
