Your Travel Agent Is Still Better Than Google Flights

There are Three Things Google Will Never Beat a Travel Agent At

RALEIGH, N.C. - March 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Google Flights seems to be going directly after their biggest competition, travel agents.  In recent articles in the Huffington Post “6 Google Flights Tricks That Are Better Than Any Travel Agent” and this jab from The Independent “Here’s seven ways Google Flights (http://www.bookjetset.com) could save you time, money, and potentially a trip to the travel agents.”  Google seems to be directly attacking travel agents.  You can DIY anything these days, but is using an automated engine really better than contacting an expert?  Of course not.

Here are just three of the things your travel agent will always be able to do better than Google Flights.

1. Save You Time.  Let’s face it, the most valuable thing that a travel agent has to offer you is your time.  We let people clean our homes, watch our children, wash our cars, mow our lawns, and make our food.  Why should it be any different for travel plans?  Having a custom planned itinerary sent directly to you, with all the special little travel agent extras, is priceless.  And it is also the #1 reason Google will never replace travel agents.

2. Help You Decide Where To Go.  Searching by region is perhaps the most popular new feature on Google Flights, which makes sense because it is a far more organic way to start planning a trip.

This is a nice feature, but it simply doesn’t compare to a conversation with a trusted travel agent who can get to know you personally.  An agent will take time to get to know your likes, and your dislikes and chances are they have probably been wherever you’re trying to go.  .

3. Help You Find The Best Price. Airfare can be one of the most expensive parts of a trip. Google Flights will help you avoid the fear of overpaying by highlighting the best price and by showing you the pricing for other dates around the dates you specify.

A good travel agent does this when building an itinerary. They also look for consolidated fares, group rates, and special packaged rates, these features are not incorporated into the Google Flights model.  And something you will never have to worry about your travel agent saying, “unknown price” which is what we encountered quite a bit on Google Flights when searching smaller, or more remote destinations.

Big Misconception.  “All of that is great, but I have to pay a travel agent to book travel for me.”  This is actually one of the biggest misconceptions out there about travel agents.  Booking with a travel agent will only affect your price positively.  Travel agents are paid by the supplier when they book you a trip, so normally they do not charge a fee, unless it is a very detailed itinerary that is very time consuming.  So this is basically a FREE service to you.

An Added Bonus.  So, what happens if something goes wrong on your trip, or there is a sudden change in plans?  What if you are stranded in another country?  Are you going to call Google when things go haywire?  Maybe the airline?  Good luck with that.  It is the airlines job to enforce penalties and make as much money for the airline off of your mishap as possible, and Google, do we really need to explain further?  Travel insurance is a great way to protect yourself, but they do not refund you right away.  There is a long process that has to take place to get reimbursed.  Meanwhile you still need to make changes, if you book on Google Flights, you are on your own.  A travel agent will back you up all the way, and make all necessary arrangements.

“Google Flights is a great new tool for travelers. But don’t be fooled: it’s got nothing on travel agents who have been doing this for far longer than Google.  One thing’s for sure, though: Google Flights is just the latest signal in how central the Internet is getting to travel planning, which is exactly why Jet Set Tourism stands out in the travel community.” Says Mark Steward of Jet Set Tourism.

Jet Set Tourism’s website (www.bookjetset.com) gives the client a choice when it comes to their travel plans.  Book all your travel needs online, or call an experienced agent, or both.  The aid of an expert costs you nothing extra.  The experienced travel agents at Jet Set Tourism will work with you to build you an unforgettable experience that you can’t find on Google, but others will certainly want to try when they hear about it.  Jet Set Tourism has a very aggressive outside agent program in place which gives other travel agents access to its suite of technology and white label solutions as well.

“Google Flights and all the others can try as they might, but the personal touch of a professional travel agent just can’t be replicated.” says Mark.
