March 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Asset Information and data management for Smart Rail systems will allow more precise decisions to be made to reduce cost, balance risk, maximise efficiency, reduce emissions as well provide an opportunity for business leaders to optimise asset performance through predictive maintenance models.

To realise these benefits, a unified vision and strategy is required to ensure we are understanding how to best leverage the information we are receiving, and how we are managing the vast amount of data associated with technology and innovation.

On June 23rd, key leaders from the UK and European rail transport sector meet to share insight into how they are developing and implementing asset information strategies, managing data across multiple disparate  systems and leveraging new technologies to succeed.

Speakers represented include:

Davin Crowley-Sweet

Professional Head of Asset Data & Information,

Network Rail

In this role Davin is responsible for setting the corporate governance and assurance framework for asset-related data and maintaining the integrity of the rail infrastructure network model.

John Downes

Head of Engineering Governance & Services,

London Underground

John heads up London Underground’s Engineering Assurance & Efficiency department tasked with developing and driving the efficiency improvement plan to fundamentally reduce the cost base of LU’s engineering, whilst also ensuring that its engineering activity meets its obligations.

Kuldeep Gharatya

Head of Technical Strategy, Systems Performance & Innovation, Engineering Director, London Underground, Transport Systems Catapult

Kuldeep Gharatya is the Engineering Director at the Transport Systems Catapult working within the Technology Office helping to realise the early goals of creating the Integrated Test Environment. He is also the Head of Systems for the Capital Programmes Directorate of London Underground.

Wassim Badran

Head of Assets and Technology Member of the Management Board SBB AG Infrastructure,

SBB AG Infrastructure

The ultimate purpose is to feed the asset- and logistical value chains with reliable and actual information of the infra. Part of the program is the realization of The Building Information Model (BIM).

Ross Dentten

Asset Information & Configuration Manager,

Crossrail

He is enabling quality asset information to support 1 million physical assets whilst harnessing standards, information, technology, processes and people within the industry to optimise whole life value and to help with ‘Moving London Forward’.

Vincent Weeda

Railway Traffic Analyst, ProRail

Analyst within the Performance Analysis Office (part of ProRail Traffic Control), managing continuous evaluation and improvement of railway operations. A deep understanding of daily practice enables us to advise on current service, future timetables and infrastructure enhancements. In a creative and pragmatic approach with other ProRail departments and train operators, we identify opportunities to raise punctuality, capacity, safety and cost-efficiency, simultaneously.

Paul Green

Director, Head of Innovation, Arkessa

Responsible for innovative approaches to support the massive opportunities emerging for the Internet of Things, initiating concept development to build disruptive and technically credible environments for a community of IoT devices, users and application developers

Carlos Esquíroz

Engineering and Maintenance Director, Metro de Madrid

As Engineering and Maintenance Director my challenge is move from repair based, run-to-failure, maintenance regimes in the form of time or rules-based maintenance regimes to maintenance predictive and / or dynamic condition-based monitoring. By using new IT capabilities, asset information systems and analysis techniques we are developing more effective maintenance regimes based on Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and real-time Asset Condition Monitoring (ACM).

Douglas Young

Asset information manager, High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd

Building a 21st. century high speed railway, HS2 will be a digital railway from the very beginning.  Asset Information is the core of the business and my role is to ensure that we have robust systems that can evolve to meet the evolving facets of the project, from concept through design, construction and into an sustainable operation railway

George Bearfield, Director of System Safety, RSSB

As part of that role he oversees the delivery and use of the GB rail industry safety incident reporting system (called SMIS – Safety Management Information System) and related ‘close call’ reporting system.
