Interior Architects and ai Design Group Take Top Honors at Good Design Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - March 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Last night Alfred Williams & Company and Herman Miller sponsored a Good Design Challenge where they gave eight local architectural firms and two universities, Appalachian State and Winthrop, Eames Molded Plastic Chairs as a canvas for expression. Hundreds of event attendees voted with dollars and the more than $3,000 raised went to the Joe Martin ALS Foundation.

Judges picked Interior Architects as the winner and ai Design Group won the People’s Choice Award.

Interior Architecture's entry, "The Awareness Chair -- A Road Well-Traveled," was inspired by the idea to spread the word about a great cause, in a great chair, in a great city.  The chair was brought to serveral locations around Charlotte where people were asked to sit and listen about the Joe Martin ALS Foundation.  Over 100 photos were taken and some became the fabric of the chair showing the road well traveled to support such a great cause.

ai Design Group's entry "The Felt Chair," was inspired by the many people affected by the Joe Martin ALS Foundation and the human brain -- both a literal interpretation of the shape and a figurative sudy highlighting its beauty and complexity.  Made of red and white felt, the chair celebrates the multidimensional environments designers and architects craft every day, making the world a more celebral place to be, one fiber at a time.

"All the firms really embraced the challenge and used it as a team-building exercise," said Amber Brown, Alfred Williams and Company's Charlotte Market President.  "Based on the overwhelming positive response from participants and event attendees, we plan to make this an annual event."

Other participating firms included: Morris-Berg Architects, Redline Design Group, Gensler, Perkins + Will, Little, ODELL.
