New 4 Week Medical Volunteer Program in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Nepal - March 8, 2015 - PRLog -- This new program includes two weeks with volunteer medical trek, and another 2 weeks at our sponsoring hospital in Kathmandu.  Volunteers will spend the first half of their stay in Nepal trekking with us to remote regions of the country, and working in our moving medical clinics to provide medical care to villages with no access to health care.   Upon return to Kathmandu, there is time for a 2-3 day break before heading to the volunteer quarters near Alka Hospital where you will spend 2 weeks doing rounds with the hospital staff.  We try to pair up our volunteers with 1-2 staff teammates who work in a discipline similar to their area of study or practice.

Quick Glance Itinerary:

Day 1 – Arrive Kathmandu

Day 2 – Check-in and Welcome Dinner with Medical Trek Nepal Team

Day 3 – 12 Trekking in remote region of Nepal.  Route for these treks change each season, as Medical Trek Nepal is dedicated to serving as many as possible.  We repeat routes bi-annually to ensure sustainability.

Day 13-14 Return to Kathmandu, and free time.

Day 15 – Meet volunteer liaison at Alka Hospital and get settled in.

Day 16 – 28 Daily rounds at Alka Hospital.  Hours are generally from 8am – 5pm, but may vary depending on the department you are working in.  Volunteers choose 1 day off per week, usually Saturdays.

Price for 4 week volunteer program: $1950

Includes:  Accommodations for 4 weeks (28 days), Medical Trek Nepal trekking experience, meals while on trek, and domestic transfers.  Students will have a supervising doctor and/or Medical Trek director who will sign off on required university or hospital forms for internship credit.

Price does not include: International airfare, visas, insurance, meals other than on trek, additional excursions.
