By: Karen I. Hirsch The jurors for this art competition were Eric Shiner, the director of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pttsburgh, PA; Zachary Cahill, an interdisciplinary artist whose work has been exhibited in Germany, Denmark and the United States; and Megan Fizell, a Sydney-based writer and curator. Hirsch originally created "Under the Sea" while she was in the "Bridge Program" at the Hyde Park Art Center. The image was printed to 30" x 60" on aluminum. The piece was displayed at the Hyde Park Art Center this past December and January. Production of the print was supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council Agency. "I am delighted that this image was chosen as a Showcase winner," exclaimed Hirsch. Hirsch's artistic reputation has been built around photography. For the past few years, she has also been experimenting with digital art. "Under the Sea" had no photo reference. It was created entirely from her imagination. In the past six months, Hirsch's photography and digital art have been exhibited at the Palm Beach Photographic Center in Florida, the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago and at the Martha Schneider Gallery in Chicago. Her prints are found in corporate and private collections. http://www.karenihirsch.com/ End
