Still time to see the Northern Lights…on Earth

March 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Reports of a potential copycat Aurora Borealis on Mars surfaced this week, along with news of a shortlist of Brits intending to take a one-way trip to the red planet. Coincidence? Well, maybe, but honestly, you really don’t need to go that far to see spectacular auroral displays.

Reports of the Solar Maximum having already delivered its best displays are over exaggerated. While this week’s displays in Northumberland, described as the “best Northern Lights display in the UK for years” may suggest that, The Aurora Zone’s Scandinavian guides tell us displays like that can be seen often in more northerly climes. Markku Inkila one of Scandinavia’s most knowledgeable and enthusiastic Northern Lights guides says, “We’re in the middle of the “aurora zone” so even when there is low level solar activity, we see them nearly every night when the sky is clear.”

There’s still time this season for great Northern Light spotting across the northern climes of The Aurora Zone:

Natural Wonders and Northern Lights, Iceland

A wonderful insight into the incredible natural beauty and geographical spectacles of an island unlike any other, with lava fields, lagoons, glaciers, volcanoes and geysers. Iceland occupies a brilliant location at the heart of the Aurora Zone, and with a dedicated super jeep tour and two nights at a famed Northern Lights hotspot the prospects of seeing the Lights is exceptionally high. Departures on 9 and 26 March. Price for four nights is from £1,814 pp*

ICEHOTEL 25th anniversary & Northern Lights, Tärendö, Sweden

There’s still time to see the ICEHOTEL as it celebrates its 25th anniversary, with this exciting four-night trip. Buried deep in Swedish Lapland, Tärendö’s position high above the Arctic Circle make it prime Northern Lights territory. Try your hand at ice fishing, whizz through the forest on a snowmobile and learn to ‘mush’ your own team of huskies. Go on a Northern Lights hunt via snowmobile-pulled sled or snowshoe, before spending a night in the famous ICEHOTEL. Departures on 11, 18 & 25 March. Price for four nights is £1,593 pp*

Search for the Northern Lights, Muotka, Finland

As well as evening Northern Light hunting activities you will also enjoy an array of daytime adventures such as husky sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. You’ll stay in the Muotkan Maja Wilderness Lodge, recently renovated, with Scandinavian décor, traditional wood burning sauna and the two Aurora Bubbles just a short walk from the hotel. Departures throughout March. Price for six nights is from £1,792 pp*

Hover crafting & dinner on ice, Luleå, Sweden

Enjoy thrilling husky safaris, relaxing saunas and exciting hover crafting expeditions in Swedish Lapland, plus a private dinner on ice. Sat by a campfire on sea ice, savour a warming vodka and lingonberry cocktail, a hot soup starter, made from forest-picked mushrooms, and a main course of reindeer fillet and Swedish potato cakes. After dinner, head outside to spot the wondrous Northern Lights. Departures throughout March. Price for four nights is £1,926 pp*
