CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - March 6, 2015 - PRLog -- The Jackson County Historical Society is launching a new mobile tour app for the Clinton Engines Museum, one of four unique sites the organization manages. The tour was developed to enhance the visitor experience by providing access to educational content through their mobile devices. Not only does the tour encourage visitors to explore the space at their own pace, it also allows them to take away what they have learned by providing access to the tour long after they have left.

The Clinton Engines Museum is housed in the original 1950 administration building of the the old Clinton Machine Company factory. It serves to preserve the history and tell the story of the millions of little air-cooled engines that were once manufactured there–which could be found in everything from chainsaws to scooters across 91 countries.

Comprised of 28 stops, the tour takes visitors around the interactive museum floor, which includes engine displays, a look at the workers who built them, an archive of advertising campaigns, and an understanding of the company’s industrious founder.

“We wanted to tell the story of each of the stops within the site by delving deeper into the particular topic than signage alone would allow,” says Bonnie Mitchell, Director and Curator of the Jackson County Historical Society. “The tour is an excellent opportunity to provide background, add rich details, and tell the special stories that make each stop memorable.”

Powered by technology provided by New York-based OnCell-TourSphere, a leader in the mobile space for cultural destinations, the museum intends to include additional tours for the organization’s other museums in the future.

The mobile tour can be accessed on any web-enabled device at www.myoncell.mobi or by dialing (563) 748-3099.
