March 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Magline assisted the Standish-Sterling Community Schools with the High School’s robotics program. The FIRST program is dedicated to growing the next generation of engineers and technologists through a robotics competition. The designing, fabricating, and programming of the robot ignites in high school students a passion for STEM careers. Working side-by-side with engineers within the manufacturing industry, students have the chance to try every aspect of engineering – mechanical design, CAD work, electrical, and programming.

James Gage, Magline’s Plant Manager shared, “Having the opportunity to work with, and be part of the FIRST program was exciting and a very educational experience.  To see these young minds transform a kit of parts into a fully functional robot in 6 weeks is amazing.  From programming to CAD work, from electrical to mechanic, these kids are working together to build a future and gaining a wonderful set of skills that are truly needed in the marketplace today.  We look forward in continuing to support the FIRST program and the Standish Sterling High School and hope to bring some of this talent to our own company in the near future.”

Magline made a monetary donation to Standish-Sterling Schools to assist with the robotics event as well as have two employees as judges for the event. Magline Vice Chairman, D. Brian Law, congratulated the student teams for their accomplishments last year and for being chosen this year to host the first robotics district event held last week.

The high school students are involved with building their own workable robot and then enter various competitions throughout the state trying to reach a State and possibly National level recognition. This year the theme for the competition is “Recycle Rush” where they are tasked with getting their robot to pick up containers and barrels and place them into a designated scoring zone with limited time competing simultaneously with other teams. Magline invited the team to bring their robot in for a demonstration that will give them an opportunity to work around an audience before their competition.
