TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - March 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Barbara Ray, vice president and global public sector lead at management consulting firm North Highland (http://www.northhighland.com/), has been appointed as a member of the Florida Government Efficiency Task Force (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/FloridaEfficiency/). Ray was appointed by Senate President Andy Gardiner, and will serve until Jan. 2016, when the Task Force is scheduled to make its recommendations to the Joint Legislative Budget Commission, Governor Rick Scott, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

“I’m honored by the selection to be a part of the Task Force, and the opportunity to work alongside a distinguished group of individuals, all of whom I highly respect,” said Barbara Ray. “I look forward to the progress we will make in our great state through our combined efforts.”

Barbara has more than 20 years of experience in and around Florida State government. Her extensive expertise includes consulting to state government executives and Fortune 500 business executives on the business of good, cost-effective, delivery-effective government. Under former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, she served as deputy secretary to the Department of Management Services and general counsel to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. In 2003, she was appointed to a four-year term as a Florida State Boxing Commissioner under Governor Bush and was the only female on the board during her tenure.

The Task Force was created by Article III, section 19(i) of the Florida Constitution to develop recommendations for improving governmental operations and reducing costs. The Task Force is composed of 15 members of the Legislature and representatives from the private and public sectors appointed by the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The previous Government Efficiency Task Force concluded its term in June 2012, and delivered a report (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/FloridaEfficiency/documents/20...) that included several recommendations to increase government efficiency and achieve more than $3 billion in savings over four years. Florida’s annual budget is expected to be more than $77 billion in the upcoming fiscal year.
