AMMAN, Jordan - March 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Ipsos Conducts The Most Comprehensive Survey Yet On Jordan’s Non-Camp Syrian Population

Amman, Jordan—February 2015:

Ipsos has recently completed a comprehensive study looking into lives, attitudes, and behaviors of Jordan’s Syrian Population, focusing specifically on the forgotten majority, Syrians who currently reside outside of the refugee camps, which total 1.3 million and make up 93% of Syrians living in Jordan, according to Interior Ministry figures. The research studied all aspects of their lives, including a detailed understanding of their demographics, socio-economic situation, as well as their health and wellbeing. The study goes deeper to uncover this segment’s shopping behavior, media habits, mobile and internet usage, and their lifestyle.

Being the first of its kind, the report aims at providing a better understanding of this important and sizable segment of the population across a wide variety of sectors. Results show that, on average, a Syrian Household is made up of 6 individuals – larger than the average size of a Jordanian household (5.4 individuals on average). This is also a very young population, with 46% being below the age of 15 years old.

Financially, over 90% of Syrian Households depend on aid to cover their day to day needs. In fact, 40% have no other income and depend solely on the aid provided by NGOs and other sources, with the majority making less than JD 200 per month on a household level. More than 7 in 10 of those within the working age are unemployed, and the majority of those employed work on a temporary basis, lacking stable jobs. Moreover, over 4 in 10 Syrians of schooling age currently do not go to school.

Having said that, the majority of Syrian households are connected, with 8 in 10 households owning at least one mobile line, a device seen as essential, as not only is it the main device for internet connectivity, but also provides Syrians with opportunities and a link to the local community.

In terms of methodology, Ipsos has visited 1,000 Syrian households and collected information about approximately 6,000 Syrians.
