GRASS VALLEY, Calif. - March 3, 2015 - PRLog -- Experienced Ayurvedic practitioner Bharata is teaming up with the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm (14651 Ballantree Lane) to hold another of his popular “Food As Medicine” seminars. The week-long seminar, to be held April 5 - 12, is designed to promote health and longevity by providing participants with the knowledge and the skills necessary to apply Ayurveda to the preparation of delicious, health-sustaining food.

Bharata’s hands-on Food as Medicine seminar is based on the time-tested science of Ayurveda, Yoga's sister science. In this seven-day certificate course, students will learn Ayurveda's principles of six tastes and three constitutions to build recipes for restoring health and balance. In addition to covering theory, Bharata will lead students in hands-on practices in cooking, including using spices and herbs. A certificate will be issued at the end of the course.

The course,  part of a series of modules offered by the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Organization in collaboration with Acharya David Frawley (Vamadeva), is designed for students of all kinds. No background in Ayurveda is required.

To view topics of study and a daily schedule for the seminar and to register online, go to https://www.sivanandayogafarm.org/course/food_as_medicine. Those who wish to attend should register early, as space is limited.

“Ayurveda, or the science of life, is a holistic healing system developed thousands of years ago in India alongside Yoga,” Bharata said. “One main concept we teach is that health and wellness rely on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.”

Ayurveda is recognized and approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a medical healing system. The practice is gaining traction in the U.S. as a viable form of alternative medicine.

The main application of Ayurveda is the promotion of high states of health, as opposed to the treatment of unhealthy states after they occur, which is the primary mode of most Western Medicine.

“One of the main concepts of Ayurveda is that separateness is an illusion — we are all connected to each other and to all things in some way,” Bharata said. “To achieve good health, the mind, the body, and the spirit need to be in harmony. Any disruption of this harmony leads to sickness and ill health. When that balance is achieved you cannot be anything except vibrantly healthy and disease free.”
