Nicky Morgan MP Raises The Importance Of Eye Tests In Children During Visit To Loughborough Optician

LOUGHBOROUGH, U.K. - March 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan met Mohammed Bhojani, Lead Optometrist at Visual Answers Opticians and Member of Leicestershire and Rutland Optical Committee.

Mohammed showed Nicky some of the latest diagnostic technology that can now be used for the early detection of conditions such as macular degeneration and glaucoma.

‘I discussed with Mohammed the many different services that some optometrists can now offer in their local community and how they are currently working with local GP’s and CCG’s to help improve access to eye care and even keep hospital waiting lists down by monitoring and triaging eye conditions. We also talked about the importance of having regular eye tests for children. Eye tests are still free on the NHS for all children under 16. It was interesting to hear that according to the latest College of Optometrists statistics, 25% of children under the age of 16 have never had their eyes tested. It’s good to know that the Local Optical Committee is planning to raise awareness of this important issue by sending out information leaflets to local schools in Leicestershire’.
