The day started out as any other at a junior high school in Winterset, Iowa. But the day ended with an invasion by the vicious alien Reficulians. Eleven-year-old Derrick survived the first day because of a fluke in alien technology. Not knowing if it was just his town that was attacked or the whole world, Derrick eventually discovers other survivors. One by one, young people come together to fight for survival. They meet up with an alien who is a Keltian and is on their side. Unable to defeat the Reficulians on their own, Earth’s survivors recruit a small band of kids, giving each of them special abilities.

The young fighters encounter more survivors, and through trial and error learn how to use their abilities to fight the Reficulians. Will their powers be enough to conquer the alien species that has already obliterated other worlds? Who will be the victors in this first book of the trilogy?

About the Author: Born in Oklahoma, Michael Soliday grew up in Iowa and Colorado, and was mainstreamed at public schools long before most students with a hearing impairment. “My son, who I adopted from the island of Guam, is also deaf. I wanted to show him that there are no obstacles in life unless you make it one.”He received his B.S. from Utah State University and his M.Ed. from McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College). In 1993, he received the Nevada Teacher of the Year award. He has taught in Iowa, Nevada, North Carolina, Florida, New York City, Texas,and the island of Guam. He currently lives in Indianola, Iowa.
