AUTHOR SHANNON GIGLIO DONATES PROFITS FROM SHORT BUS HERO TO PITTSBURGH’S ACHIEVA

Savannah, GA
– In recent months, reports of professional wrestlers showing kindness and support to fans with Down syndrome have appeared in the news, from ‘HHH’ to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Following their cue, Shannon Giglio, author of Short Bus Hero, and her publisher, Nightscape Press, are pleased to announce that they will be donating profits from the book’s sales from March 1through March 15, 2015 to Pittsburgh’s Achieva. In Short Bus Hero, Giglio paints a heart-rending portrait of a young woman with Down syndrome who wants nothing more than to help her fallen hero get back into the ring after his organization lets him go.

“I was inspired by my sister-in-law to write this book. She is the most enthusiastic wrestling fan that I’ve ever met in my life,” says Giglio. “I never knew anyone with Down syndrome before I met her, and she changed the way I look at the world. I have the greatest admiration for her, and for her wonderful mother.” Giglio’s ex-sister-in-law is working with Achieva, through their “A Home of My Own” program, to locate appropriate independent housing, a theme touched on in Short Bus Hero.

“Short Bus Hero has it all: Down syndrome, hoarding, suicide attempts, heart attacks, betrayal, redemption, angels, winning lottery numbers, and big time professional wrestling. A dark, sweet, and poignant tale about what happens when you follow your dreams,” says S. G. Browne, author of Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament, Big Egos, Fated, and the forthcoming Less Than Hero (March 17, 2015, Gallery Books).

Giglio, originally from Milwaukee, WI, graduated from Drexel University and Emerson College before going to work for Dick Clark, CBS, and Ridley Scott. She lives in Savannah, GA, with her husband, author Peter Giglio, and her two daughters. She is currently finishing her fourth and fifth novels. Giglio maintains a blog at http://slushpileheroes.com. Short Bus Hero is available online through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and the Nightscape Press website.
