DCI Carlsbad Hosts Open House for the Community

CARLSBAD, N.M. - Feb. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- DCI Carlsbad located at 2319 Osborne Rd., Carlsbad, NM, is hosting an open house for the community on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Anyone interested in learning more about chronic kidney disease (CKD) or treatment options for kidney failure are encouraged to attend. Tours of the facility will be given; education will be presented; and light refreshments will be served.

The open house is a special opportunity to visit with key individuals from the DCI Carlsbad facility.

Machelle Lewis, RN, nurse manager, will be available to discuss her role in managing the facility.

Anna Ybarra, RN, head nurse for the home therapies program, will provide education on home dialysis options.

“DCI Carlsbad provides the only local training and support service for peritoneal dialysis in the Carlsbad area. I feel like many people who could benefit from a home dialysis option are unaware that it is available. I would like to encourage the public to come out to our event and learn more about this safe and comfortable option for dialysis,” says Ybarra.

The local team will also be joined by Charles Campbell, RN, who provides chronic kidney disease (CKD) education to patients through the Reach Kidney Care program.

“How many people ever stop and think about their kidney health? I can tell you that most people don’t consider their kidney health until they are in pain and by then it’s too late,” says Campbell. “Kidney disease is a silent killer that just so happens to be the 9^th leading cause of death in the US. My job and my passion are all about helping people recognize and manage kidney disease early before it becomes irreversible kidney failure.”

DCI Carlsbad has provided both in-center hemodialysis and home peritoneal dialysis support for patients in the Carlsbad community who have renal failure over the past 15 years.

Medical direction and patient care is provided by Dr. James Gibb, who is affiliated with the Nephrology Division of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico.  Dr. Gibb will at the open house to meet the community and answer questions about kidney disease.
