Independent app QuakQuak takes on the big boys of entertainment!

LONDON - Feb. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- London -  Don Allen the CEO and founder of QuakQuak - an app for smartphones and tablets - likes a challenge and few would take it upon themselves to pitch against established media corporations such as Sky, and the BBC. And why not add YouTube and Netflix into the mix? But QuakQuak wants to do just that.

“QuakQuak is just like TV. Only better." Allen explains, "QuakQuak is for people who want great quality entertainment on their mobile, but they are time-restricted - so we provide the perfect answer. We host the highest quality curated videos, less than 10 minutes in length.  Independents make amazing videos and are desperate for people to see their work, so we help them reach a mobile - global - audience."

Delivering video entertainment to your mobile may not be new but it's the whole thinking behind QuakQuak that gives it a real edge. Take, for example, the fact that there are nearly 38m smartphone users in the UK alone and that 87% of us watch videos on our smartphones. And it's growing! Take a look around you right now and I'll hazard a guess that you'll spot someone hunched over their phone - we're always interacting, checking and catching up, and when we've got time to kill, turning to our phones for entertainment is our first port of call.

It's a neat idea and it's definitely drawing attention. Intriguingly QuakQuak brings together all the elements we're already familiar with. Just like TV it has a scheduled channel so you know when to tune-in for your favourite show. Plus, there's a CatchUp section to allow you to search for the type of show you want. All very neat and compact but Allen explains one more addition, “To make it really special we came up with My Channel. It’s your very own unique

channel that will deliver you shows that it thinks you will like - it will learn from the shows you've viewed and how you've rated them or if you've voted for them." Which brings us on to The Golden Thumb vote, QuakQuak’s hosted awards ceremony for the videos it shows - a real chance for the independents to achieve recognition.

Big plans indeed! And as Allen leaves to go and talk to a group of students from the Met Film School it dawns on me that this isn't a crazy idea. A free app, with no geographical restrictions, championing independents and delivering videos of a high standard to your mobile device. So if you have a few minutes to kill and and fancy watching a show that's Quick, Under 10 minutes, Anywhere (here!) and is Kick-ass entertaining, QuakQuak is your place.
