The much awaited Garmin Fenix 3 GPS Watch has landed. But is it a flop or top of the pops?

CRAMLINGTON, U.K. - Feb. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- The Gamin Fenix range has historically had a strong following in the hiking and outdoor community thanks to the excellent navigational features it packed. The Fenix 3 still boasts all of these navigational goodies including an altimeter, barometer and compass. However, it is a vast departure from the Fenix 2, and we mean in a good way, a very good way. It is clear from the outset that this watch has taken Garmin to another level in the sports watch sphere. Whilst the Fenix 2 did build upon the success of the Fenix 1 to mould a much more multisport oriented watch, it still fell short of offering many of the features we have come to expect from true multisport GPS watches such as the Suunto Ambit series.

But all of that has changed now, Garmin have completely overhauled the range with the introduction of the Fenix 3, with much of the popular features of its reveered Forerunner range being incorporated into the watch. It comes in 3 flavours with the standard models namely the Fenix 3 Grey and the Fenix 3 Silver (which sports a jazzy red strap).

The premium model is called the Fenix 3 Sapphire. This has the same functionality as the Grey and Silver but with with a premium build quality, adding into the mix a gorgeous scratch resistant sapphire lens (hence the name) and a strong-link steel wristband. This is a watch that is prepared to take a bit of a punishment. Both standard and premium models are available as bundles which gives you a Garmin HRM-Run Heart Rate Monitor for only an additional £30. That's a saving of £50 on buying the watch and HRM separately.

• Activity Tracker allows for daily monitoring of how active you have been, or alternatively how much time you have spent sitting on the couch or sleeping
• A Personal Records function enables you to see when you are smashing your personal bests against common set distances (e.g. 1 mile, 5k, 10k etc.)

These are just some of the plethora of added features that the Fenix 3 rocks. It is really set to shake up the sports smartwatch market with its advanced fitness training features and highly accurate GPS navigation.
