The major US indexes are at record levels still this week after the Head of the Federal Reserve, Ms. Janet Yellen confirmed what many analysts thought, that rates would not be increasing over the next few months.

In the first of her bi-annual FOMC statements she effectively stated that the decision would now be made on a month by month basis and that this flexibility would allow them to increase rates at the right time.

The news buoyed investors and both the S&P 500 and Dow Jones saw record closes this week with the S&P just edging off its close late yesterday closing down 0.08%.

Housing data released yesterday showed that new home sales had not slowed in January despite the inclement weather and was steadily showing an improvement in the sector.

A strong dollar has been blamed for a fall in some larger corporations profits. Hewlett Packard was one of the main companies affected showing weak guidance for 2015 and concern over the currency's strength. The stock lost nearly 10% after hours yesterday  closing at $34.67.

This is just one example of a company whose sector does not benefit from a strong dollar or weak oil prices.
