Pop/R&B Artist Torrey Mercer Named 2015 Peacemaker of the Year

SAN DIEGO - Feb. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- The Encinitas Rotary Club has selected the winner of the 2015 Peacemaker Award: Recording artist, singer, songwriter and anti-bullying advocate Torrey Mercer (www.TorreyMercer.com).

Torrey Mercer is the winner of the 2015 Peacemaker Award adding to her growing list of accomplishments.  Torrey will also be the featured speaker at the Rotary International District 5340 LEAD Conference on October 17, 2015.  "We are excited to have Torrey participating in our LEAD Conference which is a 2-day leadership camp for 8th grade students.  Much of what we do over the weekend emphasizes good decision making, and Torrey's message of acting in a way that is beneficial and positive is an essential component of our message."  says Paul Pierce, Attorney at Law and Program Coordinator for the LEAD Conference.

This young leader has been a long time advocate for positive self esteem, acceptance, and anti-bullying taking this message into schools across California via her Pledge Tour.  Torrey is expanding The Pledge Tour with plans to encompass neighboring states and eventually take her powerful and effective program that blends music with a dynamic interactive curriculum nationwide.

Torrey has galvanized this grassroots effort within California for the past two years, bringing youth of all backgrounds together to focus on celebrating who we are as individuals and as a collective group.  Her commitment reminds the community of how fragile the self esteem of the youth population is and what we can all do to teach, practice, and support positive self acceptance and anti-bullying efforts.

“I am so honored to be receiving an award that recognizes my devotion youth through The Pledge Tour and looking forward to reaching out to so many with my message through music and my passion for anti-bullying at the 2015 LEAD Conference.” Torrey stated in a recent interview.  The annual Peacemakers Award is given to individuals or organizations who promote non-violent resolution and change, who bring people together to resolve differences and/or promote this within our community.

Torrey’s latest single tackles this issue through her music and compelling lyrics in Be Your Own Hero and a new take on high school mean girls is addressed in her single Lies & Lipstick. Torrey's music is available on iTunes.  She will be performing in Nashville at Barefoot Charlie’s on March 21, 2015 and in San Diego at House of Blues on April 14, 2015.  Torrey will also be releasing her debut EP in 2015 entitled EXHALE.
