Follow in Bear Grylls’ footsteps – epic jungle treks with Discover Adventure

Feb. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- 17 February 2015

Adventurer and TV presenter Bear Grylls is set to push celebrities to their limits in a brand-new ITV series, Mission Survive (starts Friday 20 February, at 9pm).

Grylls – who led A-list stars including Ben Stiller, Channing Tatum and Zac Efron into the wilderness for his US NBC show, ‘Running Wild’ – has now convinced a further eight celebrities to compete for survival, this time in the depths of the Central American rainforest.

Joining Grylls are actors Emilia Fox and Laurence Fox, singer Max George, Olympic champion athlete Dame Kelly Holmes, TV presenter and singer Jamelia, comedy actor Tom Rosenthal, DJ, model and presenter Vogue Williams and Former England International Rugby Player Mike Tindall MBE.

Sign up for your own jungle adventure in 2015 with one of these exhilarating treks from adventure challenge specialists, Discover Adventure (discoveradventure.com):

Rainforest expedition, Costa Rica

This coast-to-coast challenge is an adventurous journey on foot and by raft from the Pacific to the Caribbean coast. The unique rainforest trek takes in Costa Rica’s diverse landscapes, climate and environments, from palm tree-lined beaches to smoking volcanoes, cloud forest, rainforest and mangrove swamps. Clamber over and under enormous tree roots beneath towering vegetation, across erratic rivers (often with fast rapids), and along demanding ascents and descents, as well as taking part in an exhilarating white water rafting expedition, too.

Departing 14 November, the trip costs from £1,999 pp (two sharing) including 11 nights’ accommodation (camping and hotel), flights (London), transport, camping equipment (except sleeping bag and mat), most meals, white-water rafting equipment, guides and Discover Adventure support team.*

Kalimantan jungle trek, Borneo

Experience an epic adventure through the steamy Kalimantan jungle in Borneo. Hack your way through the dense rainforest, along narrow tracks and up steep hills. Negotiate the often-slippery paths (due to the high humidity), avoiding trailing roots and vegetation, and wade across rivers and streams. In the heart of the jungle, soak up the atmospheric sounds of a myriad of insects and creatures, such as gibbons, hornbills and tree frogs. You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to make friends with the local Dayak people, as well as to stay in a traditional Dayak longhouse.

Departing 7 November, the trip costs from £1,999 pp (sharing a room) and includes nine nights’ accommodation (hotels, local village home stays and in a traditional Dayak longhouse), flights (London), transfers, most meals, local guide and Discover Adventure support team.*

Trek mountains and dense forests, Madagascar

Genuinely get away from it all on this trek through remote Madagascar. Witness diverse scenery every step of the way – from canyons and barren landscapes strewn with boulders to bush-covered plains, dense forests, rocky ridges and towering mountains. The route takes walkers through the sandstone rock gorges of Isalo National Park, home to ring-tailed lemurs, before heading east to the valleys and ridges of Andringitra National Park, and along the steep and rocky trail, with several large boulders to clamber over, to the summit of Pic Boby (2,658 m).

Departing 29 October, the trip costs from £2,199 pp (two sharing) and includes 11 nights’ accommodation (camping and hotel), flights (London), transfers, most meals, camping equipment (except sleeping bag and mat), entry to sites and Discover Adventure support team.*

*The Discover Adventure support team includes experienced leaders, mechanics and a doctor (depending on final group size), along with a local support crew of guides, cooks and drivers.
