PALM COAST, Fla. - Feb. 21, 2015 - PRLog -- The Rotary Club of Flagler Beach dedicated their completed multi-purpose sports fields located on East Drain Street in Bunnell on Tuesday, February 17th at 4:00pm.

This past July, The Rotary Club of Flagler Beach was awarded a $24,600 grant from Rotary District 6970 and Rotary International (RI) to build two Multi-Purpose Sports Fields in Bunnell. They also received $32,000 in cash donations, as well as in-kind labor from the City of Bunnell. In addition to the Flagler Beach Club, District 6970, and RI, the Rotary Club of Flagler County, Rotary Club of Palm Coast, GW Carver Foundation, Dr. and Mrs. Curtis Schalit, the Flagler County Sheriff Department, the African American Cultural Society, and the African American Caribbean Heritage Organization also donated to the fields.

The grant provided funds for goal posts, irrigation, signage, dirt, sod and everything necessary to have two operating sports fields. The fields were constructed by and will be maintained by the City of Bunnell.

The project was led by the Rotary Club of Flagler Beach’s Roseanne Stocker. “It’s all about the kids,” said Roseanne Stocker. “Our Rotary Club is committed to having the kids in this neighborhood play on these fields,” she added. Stocker added that it is their hope that these fields, as well as having an organized league in this neighborhood, will change lives, build character, and encourage leadership and responsibility through positive role models for children who are at risk.

Flagler American Youth Football has agreed to run the football leagues at the fields and provide scholarships and uniforms for the children who cannot afford to do so. The league was founded by Dr. Curtis J. Shalit, a plastic surgeon with Florida Oral & Facial Surgical Associates in Daytona Beach, and his wife Maria. Those interested in reserving the fields for use can call the Bunnell City Hall at 386-437-7500.
